CLA Sports Interviews | Dillon Baxter (USC Football Commit)

Oct 18 2009

USC Commit Leads The Way.

Dillon Baxter plays with field awareness like no other high school player I have seen. Baxter hails from the city that produced 2005 Heisman Trophy winner and USC Alumnus Reggie Bush and NFL superstar Marcus Allen. San Diego is an area that is anything but void of exceptional athletes. For Mission Bay High School senior quarterback Dillon Baxter, most comparisons begin with Bush, particularly in the speed category.

Don't Question Baxter's Speed.

Baxter does not run a blazing 4.3 in the forty like his predecessor Bush, however, Baxter has amazing "football speed," which has translated into a ridiculous 20 rushing touchdowns, and 1235 yards on 115 carries, in only six games so far this season. The Trojans are looking forward to the arrival of Dillon Baxter in 2010, to say the least. While questions often loom early in the recruiting process for many verbal commits, Baxter revealed to College Level Athletes after Mission Bay's victory against Point Loma High School, "I'm a Trojan."

It Never Rains in Southern California.

In addition to Dillon Baxter, the USC Trojans have received solid verbal commitments from several top players in Southern California. Other SoCal USC football commits include WR Robert Woods (Gardena Serra), RB D.J. Morgan (Taft), QB Jesse Scroggins (Lakewood), DB Dion Bailey (Lakewood), TE Randall Telfer (Rancho Cucamonga), and RB Anthony Brown (Fontana). That being said, Southern California should begin preparing dorm rooms, meal cards, and lockers for Baxter and company.

Mission Bay vs. Point Loma

On Friday night against the Point Loma High School Pointers, Dillon Baxter moved with the field vision of a player you can control in EA Sports NCAA 2010. Silencing the Point Loma crowd on their homecoming night, Baxter sliced through the Pointers defense in every direction imaginable. With the ability to stop on a dime, Baxter cut backwards, forwards, sideways, and around defenders on his way to four rushing touchdowns. However, naysayers will still question Baxter's speed.

Dillon Baxter, Up Close & Personal.

Those who question Baxter's speed have never seen him play in person, trust me. Baxter's game can be analyzed from afar by any given person with a decent football IQ, but to comprehend his ability to control a game with the ball in his hands, you must witness Dillon Baxter up close and personal. Obviously the USC Trojans have witnessed what Dillon Baxter can do, and subsequently offered the Mission Bay senior quarterback a scholarship, even before the All-American season Baxter is having thus far in 2009.
