Unsung Heroes Awards Honors Top Local Student Athletes

Los Angeles Area Youth Honored

The 2nd Annual Unsung Heroes Awards Ceremony will be held Saturday night in LA at Redeemer Missionary Baptist Church. The event celebrates the top student athletes in the area that excelled on the field, in the classroom and within the community.

This year's talented group of award recipients are well-deserving of the honor and have bright futures ahead. Gardena Serra teammates Jalen Greene and Dwight Williams will be in attendance. St. John Bosco's Jaleel Wadood, Mater Dei's Jonathan Lockett, Oaks Christian's Brandon Dawkins, Compton Centennial's Denzel Fisher, Crenshaw's Ajene Harris and Anthony Wright Jr. from Calabasas are just some of the athletes being honored.

There are a few recipients unable to attend due to scheduled visits. Last year's event featured several D1 Bound athletes like Nebraska's Terrell Newby, Washington's Jermaine Kelly Jr, Cal's Khalfani Muhammad and UCLA's Mossi Johnson.

The guiding force behind the Unsung Heroes Awards is Jeffrey Coprich Sr. and the Inner City Youth Foundation. Their mission is to promote a safe and healthy environment for at-risk youth to flourish into productive members of the community.

CLA was honored to attend last year's inaugural ceremony and looks forward to a great evening on Saturday.
