1. Collin Klein QB Kansas State

Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein is still in the lead for the Heisman after leading the Wildcats to a 23-10 road victory over TCU. Klein rushed for two more touchdowns bringing his season total to 19. Klein has thrown 12 touchdowns while completing 70 percent of his pass attempts.

At 10-0 and ranked first in the BCS standings, Optimus Klein has the Wildcats two wins from a berth in the national championship game. If the Wildcats win out, it will be difficult for voters to deny Klein the Heisman.

2. Marqise Lee WR USC

The 2013 recruiting class at USC features three of the top wide receivers in the nation in Sebastian LaRue (Santa Monica, CA), Steven Mitchell (Bishop Alemany, CA) and Eldridge Massington (West Mesquite, TX). LaRue and Mitchell are both versatile slot-type players just under 6'0", while Massington has a long frame at 6'3" 205.

The time has come. The 2012 college football season kicks off Thursday with a good set of games to get the ball rolling.

The only ranked team on the slate are #9 South Carolina who opens the year on the road against Vanderbilt in an early season SEC clash.

Another intriguing story line is the debut of Brett Hundley as UCLA starting quarterback in head coach Jim L. Mora’s first game at the helm.

In the battle of the Cougars, Washington State travels to Provo to take on BYU in Mike Leach’s inaugural game as WSU head coach.

As class of 2012 high school recruits are opening fall practices for their respective colleges, a new class of prospects enter the recruiting ranks. This year's class of high school seniors now look to make their mark on the HS football recruiting landscape. Practices have begun for the 2012 HS football season and teams are eagerly awaiting week one matchups.

It’s almost Spring and March Madness is about to take the country by storm. Office pools, brackets and riveting winner take all basketball will be in full force. For high school senior basketball stars, it’s a window to the future and their college aspirations. At this time next year, many of them will be leading their teams to the NCAA tournament and competing for the ultimate prize.

Ranking high school recruits is not an exact science. Well, if you compare ranking high school recruits to how NFL players are scrutinized, it isn’t very scientific. On the morning of April 27th 2012, Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay would have helped determine the fate of the first 32 picks of the NFL Draft. Similarly, the likes of ESPN, Rivals.com and Scout.com compile rankings and analysis of high school recruits. The particular ranking of a recruit can significantly improve or reduce that player’s stock and be the difference between Division I, DII, DIII or less.

After redshirting last season, former Serra High star quarterback Conner Preston is primed to make a big impact for the SMU Mustangs in 2012. With J..J. McDermott graduating and Kyle Padron transferring, the starting quarterback position is Preston’s for the taking. The expected arrival of former Texas quarterback Garrett Gilbert in June should raise the competition but we anticipate Preston seizing the reigns under center.
