The 6'3" 225 pound linebacker has received a lot more attention as of late and says his top 5 schools at the moment are Washington, Cal, Oregon, USC and UCLA. "I like Miami too," says Waller, but he also reveals that University of Washington is his number one school at this point. "I like that they noticed me first," Waller said of the Washington Huskies. "All these other schools are sitting around and they saw my highlight tape, but Washington saw something in me that they liked and I like the program," Waller told CollegeLevelAthletes.com.
As a Los Angeles area native, Waller hopes to get an offer from USC and several other schools. "I get frustrated because I want so many offers that I don't have," he says. "I feel that USC is still going to be USC and taking away two bowl games isn't going to stop them from getting people into the draft," Waller said when asked about the recent NCAA sanctions against the Trojans. Waller currently holds offers from Washington, Washington State, Colorado State, Fresno State and Idaho, but look for that to change as the year progresses. "I might commit right before the season," Waller told CLA Sports, and he also said that he plans to visit Washington later on this summer.
As one of California's top linebacker recruits in the class of 2011, Waller has gotten to know the (recruiting) process very well. In regards to university coaching staffs, Waller said, "You start to see if they're all talk or they are really going to offer you." Waller said that he sees how coaches sometimes court a particular player at a position just in case they don't get a commitment from another top player they've recruited at that same position, but he acknowledges this as the norm in the world of football recruiting. "That's the business and it's nothing you can do about it sometimes," Waller said. If Waller decides to wait out the recruiting process, look for his offer list to increase significantly this year.
