My experience at the LA Watts Summer Games was incredible and inspirational. Having been a kid who grew up playing basketball around the neighborhood with K&E Bulls out of the Crenshaw district, it was nostalgic to see this event unfold with my team partner and great friend Aaron Plunkett. Even though he was handicapped with a badly sprained ankle, he made his way across numerous playing fields to support the LA Watts Summer Games mission, and it was dedication at its finest.

The wide receiver position was one to watch during Sunday's championship round. Franklin's Joshua Taylor was clearly the most dominant wideout at the LA Watts Summer Games and possessed a leaping ability and hands that will excite a number of high profile Division I colleges.

Jose “Coco” Jarin knows the game of football. More importantly, Coco Jarin knows the game of life. As a coach with over 25 years of experience, Jarin has worked with the likes of former NFL player and Stanford Defensive Coordinator Dave Tipton, Sweetwater High School coaching legend Gene Alim, Mt. San Antonio College coaching guru Bill Fisk, who starred at USC, former Oregon Ducks star and Pasadena City College Head Coach Kenny Lawler, and the list goes on.

Anthony January was in full beast mode Wednesday night, leading the Toreadors with 17 points in a 84-54 thumping. CLA caught up with Anthony after the game to get his thoughts on the lopsided victory.

“It’s always like that. Most of the teams in high school basketball aren’t that big. So Coach always tells us to take advantage of that.”
