Alemany Outduels Bishop Amat 56-35 in Serra League Game

High Caliber Alemany Offense Led by USC Commit Steven Mitchell

Those in attendance at Bishop Alemany High School Friday night witnessed a relentless barrage of offensive production as the host Alemany Warriors defeated the Bishop Amat Lancers 56-35 in an exciting Serra League showdown.

After the Lancers jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, the Alemany offense went to work and proceeded to light up the scoreboard behind the stellar play of quarterback Devon Dunn, who spread the ball around to a bevy of playmakers like explosive USC commit Steven Mitchell and sophomore sensation Desean Holmes. The Warriors scored touchdowns on every first half possession and took a 28-14 lead into halftime.

Alemany picked up right where they left off, scoring touchdowns on their first two second half drives, building a seemingly insurmountable 42-14 advantage.

True to form, a team the caliber of Bishop Amat refused to go down without a fight and mounted a serious rally thanks in large part to the outstanding play of Duke commit Darren Andrews and junior quarterback Koa Haynes. The Lancers cut the deficit to 42-35 with about 10 minutes to go in the game on a touchdown run by Andrews.

Leading 42-35, the Alemany offense returned to the field and immediately restored order when Dunn connected with Holmes on a game-clinching 83-yard touchdown pass to send the home crowd into a frenzy. For the game, Holmes finished with seven catches for 174 yards and two touchdowns. Dunn tossed four touchdowns and threw for 385 yards. The Warriors added another late score and won the game 56-35.

The standout performer on defense for Alemany was defensive back Alif Grayes, who was all over the field making stops. D1 bound studs Steven Mitchell of Alemany and Darren Andrews of Bishop Amat showed why their headed to the next level with their outstanding performances. But it was the exceptional play of Desean Holmes that proved too much for the Lancers to overcome. With the victory, Alemany improves to 7-1 and remains the only unbeaten team in Serra league play.
